The premise of applied kinesiology is that our bodies have an innate knowledge of themselves, and know when something is wrong. In kinesiology, muscles are tested to find excesses or deficiencies which impair normal physiological activity. So kinesiology is basically a self-help therapy, based on touch and muscle testing.

Applied kinesiology was developed by an American chiropractor named Dr. George Goodheart. In 1964, he observed a change in muscle strength in one of his patients after he massaged tender spots on the muscle running from the hip to below the knee. This discovery led him to further research, and the finding that massaging the neurolymphatic reflexes strengthened weak muscles. More research and discoveries followed and they became the basis of kineosiology-how to improve the blood supply, nutrition, and energy flow. As a result, kineosiology links the best of eastern and western physiology.

When you visit a kineosiologist practitioner, a complete history of your health is taken . Then many different muscles are tested and your posture is analyzed. Diagnostic tests may also be used, such as X-rays, blood chemistry tests, and electrocardiograms, depending on your complaint. All these tests show in which parts of your body the natural energy flow is disturbed. Then massaging specific reflex points, and other methods like using electro-stimulation is applied. Nutritional support is also tested by placing various foods in your mouth and testing weak muscles to see if they are made stronger or weaker by these foods.

The diagnostic and treatment methods are both completely safe, and can achieve quick results in problems such as headaches, neck and back pain, and stress related problems. These kineosiological techniques are used by many health professionals such as chiropractors, osteopaths, dentists, and homeopaths.
